The Dialogues address issues in mathematics and science instruction reflected in the California State Board Adopted Science and Mathematics Content Standards for K-12 as well as the content of introductory level college classes. Disciplines include mathematics, statistics, biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences (including astronomy and cosmology), engineering, computer sciences, medicine, environmental design in social ecology, and education. Topics include how research—in traditional disciplines and in teaching and learning—impacts curriculum pedagogy. Readings provide background for discussion and introduce college faculty to issues in preK-12 math and science education. Educators from preK-12, community college, and four-year public and private university sectors discuss wide-ranging perspectives on the disciplines they teach. College students who tutor or assist teachers also participate, especially those interested in pursuing teaching credentials.
